Aseem Mangaokar, Hotel Garuda, recently released his new single 'Head in the Trees' which captures a completely different sound from the artist. The moniker used to be a duo between Chris Gavino, Manila Killa and Mangaokar until they broke up this past year. Since the breakup, Mangaokar has become the face of Hotel Garuda and recently completed his first solo tour. Along with the new change, he has begun to experiment with sound and released this song.
'Head in the Trees' features a vastly different sound than some would expect of 'typical' Hotel Garuda music. However, that is absolutely nothing to shy away from. This song absolutely breaks down barriers and widens the array of music variation to expect from this new solo journey. This song is described by Mangaokar to be one of the "most personal songs to date." Much of his goal was to show a side of himself that has yet to be seen. Hotel Garuda has amassed a strong following within dance music and this allows him to fully express himself as an artist. The tune features his own vocals and an indie/alternative like production. While not as house-like as much of the previous repertoire, it is just as full of quality as any previous release.
I am personally ecstatic to see where Hotel Garuda goes from here. While not all artists can pull of a sound change within the same moniker, I have faith that this will be different. His talent and ability to experiment with his own sound is a breath of fresh air within the industry. While it may be an unpopular opinion: I fully support artists experimenting with their sound and push their limits as artists.
